HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE

Nehru Memorial College, Puthanampatti was established in the year 1967. It was founded by Late Shri. Mookka Pillai was a great philanthropist whose selfless spirit prompted him to take up the mission and vision of spreading higher education as early as 1942.

The great philanthropist and visionary Late Thiru. Mookka Pillai conceived a noble idea of providing education to the children of peasants, the downtrodden, and the poor section of the rural society and implemented it in the year 1942 by establishing a middle school in the rural village of Puthanampatti. He had put his heart and soul in addition to his hard-earned money into imparting education to the rural mass of the village. During the Pre-independence days, the founder had a great reverence for Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and hence the school was named after our nation's first Prime Minister. The school was upgraded to a High school in the year 1948. His other brainchild called Nehru Basic Training School paved the way for promoting a teacher in every house of the village in and around Puthanampatti.

The undaunted spirit of the unlettered genius did not satisfy himself with school education alone. He envisaged yet another noble cause of imparting higher education to the people in and around Puthanampatti and his dream was realized in 1967 in the form of Nehru Memorial College.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The college founded in 1967 has grown into a huge institution offering a wide variety of courses to over 4000 students hailing from the rural villages of Trichy. Our college holds the honor that Annadurai, the chief minister of Tamilnadu made its reopening. Moreover, NMC was the first to introduce computer science in the Southern districts of Tamilnadu. The great Philanthropist, Sri Mookkapillai has contributed his immense wealth to the establishment of this college because he realized that education has the most crucial role to play in the progress of a nation. His unwavering commitment has led to the birth of this college.

Our college exists to impart quality higher education to all, especially the poor, the needy, and the underprivileged to enable their holistic development in response to the great commandment and love. It aims to produce graduates of distinction, committed to integrity, Professionalism and lifelong learning by widening their knowledge horizons in range and depth.

 

SECRETARY'S MESSAGE

 

NMC was started to provide quality education to the uneducated, downtrodden rural people in and around Trichy, at an affordable cost. Our college has an excellent infrastructure with well-equipped laboratories, a Seminar hall, an ICT Hall, a Digital Library and a Well-built auditorium along with Well-maintained Hostels. We provide Quality education to all classes of people through dedicated faculty members and we also try to accomplish excellence in knowledge & application of skills to meet the demands of the scenario. We inspire students to learn and to develop; intellectually, physically, and emotionally. We promote innovation and research in various areas of basic, life, computer Sciences, and humanities by way of interfacing with various funding organizations, universities, and other institutions.

We prepare and empower students to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to face the ever-changing world. We provide individual attention to every student and also provide accessibility to the latest trends and modern equipment paving the way for innovations.
